Estate and Trust Planning– Estate planning is the process of organizing your personal and financial affairs to be prepared in the event of disability and to arrange for the orderly transfer of your property to your intended beneficiaries. Proper estate planning involves understanding a client’s unique circumstances and constructing a plan that will address a client’s specific concerns.
I listen to clients and take the time necessary to ascertain their needs and desires, and explore various ways to implement an appropriate estate plan for their individual circumstances.
Estate planning can be complex for numerous reasons:
- There may be complexity due to the state and/or federal tax laws.
- There may be a need to protect resources for minor children and to devise a means for those children to increasingly step into the responsibility of handling their inheritance as they reach maturity.
- There may be a desire to protect assets from an heir’s potential creditors.
- There may be concern for caring for a child with special needs.
- There may be circumstances due to a second marriage and the need to balance providing for one’s spouse with caring for children from an earlier relationship.
Estate and Trust Administration: Administering an estate or trust can seem to be an overwhelming task. I can make the job more manageable by assisting my clients in every facet of the task.
My approach to estate planning is strengthened by the fact that I also help clients with administering estates and trusts and is informed by the lessons I have learned from my fiduciary litigation practice. I have handled probate and estate litigation at both the trial court and appellate court levels.
